THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT:
emphasis on verses :37-40
37 Jesus replied: " ' Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 The second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Love... What a beautiful word. What a beautiful way to live. In love. We as humans get it so confused. Some of us romanticize it so much, we really don't know what it is. Some of us run so far away from it that we live a life of isolation, hate and fear. Jesus said that if we truly love God and our neighbor, we will naturally keep the commandments. This is looking at God's law positively. Rather than worrying about all we should not do ("THOU SHALL NOTS!!!!"), we should concentrate on all we CAN do to show our love for God and others. What can you do today to show love to others? And how can you keep it going?
Read 1 Corinthians 13 to remind yourself of what love is and is not! If you don't love others, no matter what you accomplish on this earth-you will have gained nothing! Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the Truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through EVERY circumstance. Love will last forever. Love is the greatest! Thanks to an amazing wedding over the weekend, I was reminded of this. And I have some changing to do! LOL God is always right on time.
