TGN: Authority

Prayer: Father God, You are LORD of lords. In Your presence there is fullness of joy. I pray that every one of us, who believe in, trust in, love, worship, and serve you- will allow ourselves to experience that joy every second of our lives. No matter our circumstance, emotion or situation. We worship You LORD. Please accept our worship, as we spend time with You, in Your Word today. I pray that our love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that we may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of You (Philippians 1:9-11). In Jesus' name, Amen.

RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 28 *part2* v. 18 (NLT)

The Great Commission

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth."
----

God gave Jesus authority over heaven and earth. The Old Testament prophecies and genealogies in the book of Matthew present Jesus' credentials for being King of the world-not a military or political leader, as the disciples and religious leaders originally hoped; not just a good man, but a spiritual King who can overcome all evil and rule in the heart of every person.

If we refuse to serve the King faithfully, we are disloyal subjects, fit only to be banished from the Kingdom. Do you want to be banished? I know I don't. We MUST make Jesus King of our life and worship Him as our Savior, King, and LORD.

AUTHORITY :power to influence thought or behavior; in command.

-WHAT OR WHO HAS AUTHORITY IN YOUR LIFE?

**********************************************************************
Prayer: Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from You. Forgive me LORD, for ever thinking that I am more clever than You. I hope in You, LORD. I pray to You, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in Your great love, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation. Rescue me, do not let me sink; deliver me, do not let me be engulfed or swallowed. Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of Your love; in Your great mercy turn to me. Do not hide Your face from Your servant; answer me quickly, for I need You, I am in trouble. Come near and rescue me; redeem me! May Your salvation, O God protect me. I praise you and glorify You with thanksgiving (Psalm 69:1,5-6, 13-18;29-30)! I love to please You, in the name of our Savior-Jesus- let You be exalted ( 70:5)! Amen.

TGN: Doubting Jesus?

Prayer: Through Your Word Father, please correct all deceptions, and clear all confusion. I pray that each of Your children may declare the mystery of the gospel fearlessly (Ephesians 6:19-20) as it is revealed. In the name of Jesus. Amen

RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 28 v. 16-20 (NLT)

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him— but some of them doubted!
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

----

(v.17) "When they saw him, they worshiped him— but some of them doubted!"
Jesus was standing before them and some of His disciples, the close 11 (not 12 since Judas killed himself) doubted Him. Why? I don't have the answer for you on that one. But let's discuss Jesus' disciples today; Jesus is living and doing work through and with each one of us daily. Check to see if you're doubting Him instead of trusting and worshiping Him.

-IS JESUS CLEARLY WORKING IN YOUR LIFE, AND YOU'RE STILL DOUBTING HIM?

**********************************************************************
Prayer: LORD, forgive me for doubting You at any time today. Show me how to trust You more. Show me Your glory in everything I see, say and do. Don't allow me to miss Your presence, don't allow me to act without honor to my King. I love You Jesus, and in Your Name I pray. Amen.

TGN: A Lie

Prayer: I can sing of Your love forever LORD. Your Word declares Your love for people so undeserving, and yet, You love each one of us anyhow. Thank You for showing me Your love through Your Word. Forgive me for not showing love to anyone that I have allowed emotions from circumstance to come in the way of. Show me how to love others unconditionally. By this all men will know that I am Your disciple. I love You. In Jesus' name. Amen

RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 28 v. 11-15 (NLT)

The Guard's Report

11 As the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the leading priests what had happened. 12 A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe. 13 They told the soldiers, "You must say, 'Jesus' disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.' 14 If the governor hears about it, we'll stand up for you so you won't get in trouble." 15 So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today.

----

Jesus' resurrection was already causing a great stir in Jerusalem. The women were moving quickly through the streets, looking for the disciples to tell them the amazing news that Jesus was alive. At the same time, a group of religious leaders were plotting how to cover up the Resurrection. And in turn keeping a "people" in darkness.

Today there is still a great stir over the Resurrection, and there are still only two choices: to believe that Jesus rose from the dead, or to be closed to the truth-denying it, ignoring it, or tying to explain it away.

-AIN'T IT FUNNY (ironic) HOW ONE LIE CAN LEAVE PEOPLE IN DARKNESS...

**********************************************************************
Prayer: Jesus, You are my King, my LORD, my Savior. You were sent to this earth to experience everything that I will ever go through; and without sin, holding close to the Father, You sacrificed Yourself so that I could be free. And by the Spirit of the LORD, you rose 3 days later, to live forever; as I will once my time on earth comes to a close. I believe it, I believe You and in You, and I trust Your Word. Maybe I don't say it enough. I will never deny it, ignore it or try to explain it away. As CCC proclaims weekly, "Jesus is LORD period. We believe it, we proclaim it and we're seeing it come to pass." In Your powerful name I pray, amen.

TGN: Forgiveness is Here for You

Prayer: Glorious Father, God of our LORD Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray; give us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that we may know You better. May the eyes of our hearts be enlightened in order that we may know the hope to which You have called each one of us, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints, and Your incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of Your mighty strength, which you exerted in Christ when You raised Him from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come (Ephesians 1:17-23 ). Thank You for being in control of my life. In Jesus' holy name I pray, amen.

Matthew 28 *part 4* v. 10 (NLT)

10 Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there."
----

Even after the disciples had deserted Him, Jesus still addressed them as His brothers and sent a message for them to meet Him. He had forgiven them, even after they had denied and deserted Him. Their relationship would now be stronger than before.

Do you feel like you have deserted Jesus. That you haven't trusted Him? Do you feel like you haven't treated Him with the honor that He deserves. Guess what? He still loves you and is looking to forgive you, all you have to do is ask. Your relationship can also be strong.

-MEET JESUS!

**********************************************************************
Prayer: Out of Your glorious riches LORD, please strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith always. And I pray that I, being rooted and established in love-Your love, may have power together with all saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3: 16-19) today and forever more. In His precious Name, I pray, trusting Your faithful Grace and Mercy, because in You and through faith in You I may approach You with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:12). Amen.

TGN: The Resurrection is Special

Prayer: Thank You for directing me to Your Word LORD. My Source for everything. For ALL Scripture is God-breathed/God-inspired and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man and woman of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Thank You for equipping us LORD, with everything we need to succeed (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Where I am weak, You are strong. And where I think I am strong, You possess the ultimate strength. Praise Your mighty name for being the true Strength in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 28 *part 3* v. 5-9 (NLT)

5 Then the angel spoke to the women. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn't here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7 And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you."

8 The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel's message. 9 And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him.

----

Jesus' resurrection is the key to the Christian faith. Why?
(1) Just as He promised, Jesus rose from the dead.
We can be confident, therefore, that He will accomplish all He has promised.
(2) Jesus' bodily resurrection shows us that the living Christ is ruler of God's eternal Kingdom, not a false prophet or impostor. Jesus is more than just a human leader; he is not like Muhammad, Confucius or Ghandi. He is NOT a prophet, He is the Son of God.
(3)We can be certain of our resurrection because He was resurrected.
Death is not the end-there is a future life.
(4) The power that brought Jesus back to life is available to us to bring our spiritually dead selves back to life.
(5) The Resurrection is the basis for the church's witness to the world.

When Jesus rose from the dead, He rose in power as the true King. In His victory over death, He established His credentials as King and His power and authority over evil.

The Resurrection shows Jesus' all-powerful life to us-not even death could stop His plan for offering eternal life. Those who believe in Jesus can hope for a resurrection like His. We can look forward to it. Our role is to tell His story to all the earth so that everyone may share in His victory.

Recognize this crucial fact and gain every spiritual blessing that comes in Christ alone.

-GET THIS!

**********************************************************************
Prayer: Jesus, You live! You reign! Thank You, my Holy and powerful King. I'm so thankful to have You in my life. Do not let me hesitate to share You with others, in how I live, what I say and in everything I do. Let Your ways be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations. Hallelujah! The highest praise to my perfect King. Let all people praise you, then the land will increase its harvest. Our God is gracious and will bless us. Let all ends of the earth fear You (Psalm 67). In Jesus' name. Amen

RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 28 *part 2* v. 2-6 (NLT)

2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.

----

The stone was not rolled back so Jesus could get out, but so others could get in and see that Jesus had indeed risen from the dead, just as He had promised.

The angel who announced the good news of the Resurrection to the Marys gave them four messages:
(1) Don't be afraid.
The reality of the Resurrection brings joy, not fear. When you are afraid are even sad, remember the empty tomb.
(2) He isn't here.
Jesus is not dead and is not to be looked for among the dead. He is alive, with His people (you and me).
(3) Come, see.
The women could check the evidence themselves. The tomb was empty then, and it is empty today. The Resurrection is a historical fact.
(4) Go, quickly and tell. They were to spread the joy of the Resurrection.

We, too, are to spread the great news about Jesus' resurrection.

Roll back the stone that is guarding any area of your heart. Let people in to see that Jesus lives in you. And share that good news!

YOU GOT TO KNOW IT AND TRUST IT -DEPEND ON THE LORD IN SHARING IT.

*start or restart today. Don't give up. You don't have to be like anyone else, God created YOU uniquely to reach specific people in ways that only YOU can. Don't sit on that gift.

**********************************************************************
Prayer: LORD, the obstinate need You. They are the stubborn people who are carrying out plans that are not your plans. They don't want to hear the Truth, what is right. They are rejecting Your message. They are rejecting You. Forgive them Father, because they surely don't know what they do. We all only know in part, but they're missing the part that we all need to understand. That Jesus is our LORD and Savior. That we are redeemed in Him. That there is more to this life we live, than just satisfying our every desire. Destroy the wall that surrounds these stubborn spirits. You desire for all people to know You. So I pray that we all continue to encounter Your Spirit and be moved to areas, levels, stages and places- beyond what we could ever imagine or wish for. In repentance and rest is our salvation, in quietness and trust is our strength. You long to be gracious to Your children, hallelujah. You rise to show us compassion. For You are the God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for You (Isaiah 30). In the name of Jesus, amen.

TGN: Get on God's page because He is doing WORK!

*Start listening, because people have some awesome testimonies of God to share. Thank you all who have shared with me! They are powerful!*

**********************************************************************

Prayer: LORD! Your glory is definitely being revealed in the life of Your children. Not because of anything that they have done, but because You are a good, faithful, loving, always on time and consistent God. You give us the desires and the correct passions to pursue. You urge us to get to know You so that we can be in total agreement of Your Will. Hallelujah LORD, people are receiving the very thing You Promised right now. It is so awesome to see and experience and we thank You. Encourage us to share our testimonies with one another to aspire each other to submit to You and activate the faith that lives within each one of us. Not to go after just what we want, but to pursue what You have purposed for each of us to do. For everything is available to us, but not everything is beneficial for us (1 Corinthians 6:12). What You desire is the most beneficial for our lives, our spirits, our souls, our bodies, our relationships, for our communion with You. This is an exciting time LORD! I pray that Your people get the revelation of how exciting it is. How important this time is. Jesus You are the center of my joy. All that's good and perfect comes from you. You are my refuge and strength, a very present- not mystical, not secret- but VERY PRESENT help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). There is no way I can mistake You for anything else. All the honor goes to You. You are my hope LORD. Forgive me for ever envying sinners, for I want to always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. There is surely a future hope for me and my hope will not be cut off (Proverbs 23:17-18). Please protect Your people and help us to be united for You as we live and minister to one another in this world. In Jesus' name, amen.

RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 28 v. 1-10 (NLT)

1 Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.

2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.

10 Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there."

What is the Holy Spirit telling you to do? Does it frighten you? Does it fill you with great joy? Don't hesitate. Do what the LORD is telling you to do. It may make absolutely no sense, but have faith like both Mary's did (BTW: neither of these Mary's are Jesus' mother). As you act Jesus is waiting to meet and greet you as He greeted them. Run to Him, grasped his feet (READ His Word), and worshiped him. Jesus is telling each one of us, who trust Him-, "Don't be afraid."

THERE IS NO BETTER TIME THAN NOW TO TRUST JESUS CHRIST, OUR LORD IN EVERY AREA OF YOUR LIFE!

-trust means not doing it your way but His way.

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Guard at the Tomb *part2* v. 62-63

The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. "Sir," they said, "we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.'
----

It struck me loudly that the chief priests and the Pharisees had called our LORD and Savior the "deceiver." This needs to be rebuked right now. Unfortunately, for some, the Words from Jesus are not enough. Like the chief priests and the Pharisees in scripture, who put Jesus to death; some believe that Jesus isn't the Messiah. Well, He was then and He is now. The only deceiver is Satan. Know the Word, strive to be close to God- to lessen the gap you have to be deceived by the enemy on a daily basis.

KNOW FOR SURE WHO IS THE DECEIVER IN YOUR LIFE?

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Guard at the Tomb v. 62-66

The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. "Sir," they said, "we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.' So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first."
"Take a guard," Pilate answered. "Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how." So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

Funny, the chief priests remembered what Jesus had said about raising from the dead now, but claimed to not have a clue when they used this to sentence Jesus to death. Actually, the religious leaders took Jesus' resurrection claims more seriously than the disciples did. The disciples didn't remember Jesus' teaching about His resurrection (20:17-19); but the religious leaders did. Because of his claims, they were almost as afraid of Jesus after His death as when He was alive. They tried to take every precaution that his body would remain in the tomb. They made sure the tomb was thoroughly sealed and guarded. Because the tomb was hewn out of rock in the side of a hill, there was only one entrance. The tomb was sealed by stringing a cord across the stone that was rolled over the entrance. The cord was sealed at each end with clay. But the religious leader took a further precaution, asking that guards be placed at the tomb's entrance. With such precautions, the only way the tomb could be empty would be for Jesus to rise from the dead. The Pharisees failed to understand that no rock, seal, guard, or army could prevent the Son of God from rising again.

AND NOTHING CAN PREVENT JESUS FROM MOVING ALL THROUGH YOUR LIFE.

-trust Him!

TGN: Bold Change

A little late delivery, but hopefully right on time for your spirit!
**********************************************************************
Prayer (for you to pray as it applies to you or someone in your life): Father help Your children walk in Christian love and peace. We really do get so distracted by things of this world, that we lose sight of what is most important... You. Forgive us Father, and thank You for not allowing our mistakes to condemn our spirits and souls. We're very hard on ourselves at times, that we forget, the compassion, understanding, all-knowing, yet still forever loving God that You are. Thank You for who You are. For You are Great and greatly to be praised. For You are real and the most uplifting Presence in our lives. Thank You for always bringing us back to You LORD. I'm so honored to know You. In Jesus' name I humbly pray, believing that You hear us and that we are guaranteed to receive every spiritual blessing from heaven. Amen.

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Burial of Jesus v. 57-61

As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
----

Joseph of Arimathea was a secret disciple of Jesus. He was a religious leader, an honored member of the high council (mark 15:43). In the past, Joseph had been afraid to speak against the religious leaders who opposed Jesus; now he was bold, courageously asking to take Jesus' body from the cross and to bury it. The disciples who publicly followed Jesus had fled, but this Jewish leader, who followed Jesus in secret, came forward and did what was right.

Is there any small or large area in your life that you're not doing what is right for the sake of the one and only God you serve. I can think of a thing or two (three, four, or five lol). Let's repent of these specific things. Let us ask God's Spirit for instantaneous help (and believe it). And let's make bold moves of change in those areas. There's no better day then today!

TGN: Jesus

Prayer from yesterday references Isaiah 1

**********************************************************************
Prayer (Tell God [through words or song] how much you love Him, why you love Him. Tell Him you love Him): I love You LORD, and I lift my voice; to worship You, O my soul- rejoice. Take joy my King, in what You hear. Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in You ear. I love You, Father God (tell Him why)... Because You show Yourself Holy by Your righteousness. I love You because You are Holy, Holy, Holy and the whole earth is full of Your glory. I love You because You drench me with compassion and forgiveness instead of having Your anger burn against me-even when I'm in the wrong. I love You because You cleansed me through Your Son. I love You because You didn't allow me go through this life without knowing You. What an honor! I love You LORD because You care not only for me but You're for all of Your children and You've placed us here for You and one another in You. I love You LORD because Your plan is always right, and it's always for good- no matter what it may look like from my natural eye. I love You because I can undoubtedly trust You, like no one else in this world, including myself. I love You because no matter the intentions of man for me, whether to harm me or promote me- You have total control! I love You because You don't call me to be perfect, You call for my heart and genuine devotion; I am always good enough in Your eyes. The list goes on and on, but the main reason I love You, is because You first loved me and You continue to love me for who I am. You don't want me to be anyone but me in serving You. What You want to change is my allowance to let sin ruin my life. I love You LORD because You are so concerned for Your people. I love You because You won't give up on making sure we know Your Name before Your Son returns to the earth again. You are so, so good. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen (Isaiah 5,6,7; 2 Corinthians 10)

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Death of Jesus v. 45,50-56

(:45) From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
(:50-56) And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son of God!"
Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons (James and John).
----

Christ's death was accompanied by at least four miraculous events: (1) darkness-we don't know how this darkness occurred, but it is clear that God caused it. Nature testified to the gravity of Jesus' death, while Jesus' friends and enemies alike fell silent in the encircling gloom. The darkness on that Friday (Good Friday) afternoon was both physical and spiritual, (2) the tearing in two of the curtain in the Temple-the torn curtain separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place (as designed in the Old Testament), this event symbolized that the barrier between God and humanity was removed. Now all people are free to approach God because of Christ's sacrifice for our sins, (3) an earthquake, and (4) dead people rising from their tombs; and revealing themselves to many people.

Jesus' death, therefore could not have gone unnoticed. Everyone new something significant had happen. Even the centurions declared Jesus as the "Son of God." I don't know why people continued to deny it. Maybe pride. I don't have that answer, but I do know Jesus is not the one to be denied today. If you're having conflicts in believing in Jesus, ask yourself why and then bring it to God, so that He can reveal to You exactly who Jesus is. I do know He is someone You don't want to live without!

TGN: Eternal Connection to God

Your comments:

Re: It's Time to Pray 9/9/09

*"This was/is a powerful word as I read while driving and is on time. Continue being a blessing and lift me up in prayer as I'll do the same ;)"

*"Morning, Thank you for yet another powerful and touching prayer!"

GOD KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED!
**********************************************************************
Prayer (for you to pray as it applies to you or someone in your life): Dear Heavenly Father, let us not follow the rebellious ways of Israel in the Old Testament. Let You not declare us a "sinful nation, a people loaded with guilt, a brood of evil doers, children given to corruption! That have forsaken the LORD, rejected the Holy One and turned our backs on (You)." As people make the same mistakes, generation after generation, show us how not to get here. Forgive us for allowing ourselves to be beaten down, forgive us for persisting in rebellion. Thank You for Jesus Christ who gives us soundness, closes our open wounds and welts and open sores. LORD, thank You for calling to our attention meaningless offerings unto You-please turn our hearts so that everything that we do is for You and not for show or obligation. That everything we do comes from a heart of serving You. Thank You for washing and making us clean, with the blood of Jesus. Show us how to take our evil deeds out of Your sight; and because You see everything, this means to stop doing wrong and learn to do right. To seek justice in all that we do, encourage the oppressed, defend the cause of the fatherless and plead the case of the widow. You have called us to You, so that we can reason together. I serve a God whom is willing to reason with me. I pray that all of Your children are willing and obedient in order to eat the best from the land. I pray that Your people rebuke any and all attempts to resist and rebel against You. I pray that we grow closer to You consistently every day. And that we share that close bond with You, with one another and those who do not know You. In Your Name we pray. Amen.

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Death of Jesus part 2 v. 46-50

About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"-which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
When some of those standing there heard this, they said, "He's calling Elijah."
Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink. The rest said, "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to save him."
And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
----

Jesus was not questioning God; He was quoting the first line of Psalm 22-"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (It goes on to say:) "Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning!" This was a deep expression of the anguish Jesus felt when He took on the sins of the world, which caused Him to be separated from His Father. This was what Jesus dreaded as He prayed to God in the garden (remember, when His friends fell asleep on Him) to take the cup from Him (26:39). The physical agony was horrible, but even worse was the period of spiritual separation from God. Jesus suffered this double death so that we would never have to experience eternal separation from God. Now ask yourself, "Am I appreciating this gift?" Jesus left us an eternal connection to God that should be acknowledged and appreciated in everything we do. I never want to be separated from our God, how about you?

The bystanders misinterpreted Jesus' words and thought He was calling for Elijah. Because Elijah ascended into heaven without dying (2 Kings 2:11), they thought he would return again to rescue them from great trouble (Malachi 4:5). At their annual Passover meal, each family set an extra place for Elijah in expectation of his return. What we can learn from this, is to never place the emphasis off of God. Press in to what He is really saying to us, so that we're not left foolishly placing seats for persons that will never return or doing other foolish and meaningless things that God does not ask for.

It's time to Pray

Please forgive me for interrupting our normal style of TGN- but prayer is strongly being pressed on my heart. So I'm giving it priority while I am led to; praying the Word. Please continue to pray.

Prayer: LORD, You know our hearts, You know our feelings and emotions; You know that serving You brings mighty criticism from others, from unbelievers and believers. The criticism is there; we typically do all we can to avoid it. Give us the strength to take the pain to do what is right at all times. There is no more time to waste. Make each one of us like an olive tree, flourishing in Your house; I trust in Your unfailing love for ever and ever. I will praise You forever for what You have done; in Your Name I will hope, for Your Name is Good. I will praise you in the presence of Your saints. Let us praise You together always. I pray this in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen (Psalm 52/2 Corinthians 8)

*Continue to pray for the Church (believers, pastors, leaders, all ministry in and outside the walls of the church, over the Word, pray over how we will reach the community and world). It is a crucial time to get on our knees and do so. I can't stress enough how important it is that we all do this now.

**In flowing with the Holy Spirit, we'll be back with Matthew 27:45-56-The Death of Jesus, soon. Let's focus on this specific prayer today!**

Pray for the Church

Prayer: LORD, You are calling us to pray for the church!!!! Not only the body of believers but also specific congregations. There is so much going on in this world, in our country, our communities; so many prayer requests and needs in our church family; Have mercy, O God according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion, blot out our transgressions, wash away all out iniquities and foolishness. Cleanse us from sin. Forgive us LORD, because of our arrogance and pride, against You and only You, have we sinned and done what was evil in Your sight. If sin had it's way, we would never make it. But Your grace and mercy are on our side. You will not let us fall into the enemy's hands. Instead, You bring darkness to light, you expose- so that we can correct. It's time for Your people to come together and stop allowing silliness and unimportant things to separate us. Our love for You should bring us together. Cleanse us LORD, whiter than snow. Let us begin to hear joy and gladness in the church. Create in each of us a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within us. Shake us out of routine and let us be sensitive and obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit in every ministry within and outside the walls of the church building. Let us respond to Your call for corporate prayer. Praying with one another whenever we get the chance and praying for one another at all times. Do not cast us from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from us. We cannot blame anything on the world/unbelievers. It is our responsibility. We hold the light of Your Son, we know the Truth, we are called to be different- to separate ourselves from sin and be renewed by the transforming of our minds. Transformed by Your powerful Word. LORD, we have been lazy; please forgive us for not keeping You fresh in our lives. We've allowed You to slip back to second, third, fourth- even last place in our lives. We are called to bring forth Your presence in everything we do. Not just what we choose to let You reveal Yourself in. Who is in control here? You are. We know it's all better in Your hands, yet we fall back into thinking we know best. Perfect in us LORD patience for You. Restore us to the joy of Your salvation and grant a willing spirit to sustain each and every one of Your children.
I bind in the name of Jesus, every attempt of the enemy to use Your people and Your Word to taint Your name, to call forth evil and hateful deeds. Our God is a loving God who loves those we find it hard to love. For You it is effortless! Forgive us for ascribing completely false attributes to Your character LORD. Protect Your children, so that we will teach this world Your ways; so that sinner will turn back to You. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and repentant heart. This brokenness is the time when we fully realize- "Not my way" BUT ONLY GOD'S WAY will we be successful.
You are a God who saves and there is no better time than now to save! Let Your children sing of Your righteousness always and never be ashamed to do so. LORD, open our lips and let our mouths declare Your praise. In Your good pleasure make Zion prosper. We need Your rain!
Please continue to touch us, have mercy upon us, guide us and protect us. Please help us to feel your presence and experience your peace in the midst of it all. Thank you, loving and merciful God. In the Savior's name I pray, amen.
(Psalm 48-51/ 2 Corinthians 6-7 & PTWG)

*If you attend a weekly service, please pray for your pastors and leaders, pray for your congregation, pray over the Word being taught, pray over how you all will reach the community and world. It is a crucial time to get on our knees and do so. If you don't attend, pray for the pastor you watch on television or listen to on the radio, pray for your friend's church or your family members'. I can't stress enough how important it is that we all do this now.

Re: TGN: We Know in Part (9/3/09)
"That was beautiful.....the prayer was beautiful!!! Thank you Jesus...I am about to shout up in this piece. "

**********************************************************************
Prayer (for you to pray as it applies to you or someone in your life): LORD, You deserve the highest praise; You deserve ALL the praise. Let me shout to You with cries of joy, no matter what I am going through. Let my praise not be depended on what You do for me in my timing, but let me lift Your Name on High because of Who You are. How awesome You are, the LORD Most High, the King over all the earth! I sing praises to You. You not only reign over nations but You reign over my life. How great You are to be concerned about me and everything of me. Even seated on Your holy throne, You are thinking about me. I belong to You and only You LORD. I stand in awe of You. Be exalted and lift up forever and ever! In Jesus' name. Amen. (Psalm 47/Ecclesiastes 5)

The most important thing is to first read the Word. Then begin to ask God to reveal some of the things you don't understand or get. I encourage all of us to really know the accounts of Jesus life, death and resurrection.

TGN will go into deeper detail of the above scripture next week.

Have a wonderful weekend! No matter if it's 2 or 3 days for you- enjoy it to the fullest.

TGN: We Know in Part

**********************************************************************
Prayer (for you to pray as it applies to you or someone in your life): God, You are my refuge and strength. An ever-present help in trouble. You see the trouble that I will never know about and take care of it. Therefore I will not fear even when things fall down before me. Just because it looks bad or feels bad- doesn't necessarily mean good will not come out of it. You, the LORD Almighty is with me. The God of Jacob is my fortress. Let the world see Your works LORD. You command me to "Be still, and know that (You) are God; (You) will be exalted among the nations, (You) will be exalted in the earth.". You spoke it and Your words never return void. In the pressures of the greatest responsibilities, in the worry of the smallest cares, in the perplexities of life's moments of crisis: I will rest in the security of Your Will. What the world worries about, will not cause concern in my life; because in Your beautiful rest, I will have a calmness of spirit and my soul will reflect Your beauty. My presence will calm the uproar in the lives of others, as the uproars of my own life have been calmed in Your holy presence. In the name of Your courageous Son, Jesus. Amen. (Psalm 46)

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Crucifixion *part 4* v. 36-44

And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Above his head they placed the written charge against him: "THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS." Two robbers were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!"
In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, 'I am the Son of God. ' " In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
----

We can be some cruel individuals. Can't we? We will sit and judge someone, treat them unkind, talk about them, ignore them- as if we have never done anything wrong in our own life. Or we count our sin as not as bad as another's. News flash-a sin is a sin. None is better than the other. Though the worse sin is to deny the Holy Spirit; if you commit murder, I am no better than you just because I lied. They are all sins against God.

Now we really get ugly when we condemn someone without any proof or in clear awareness that the accusation is a lie. These people knew they were doing Jesus wrong. What they didn't know is what they were accusing Him of (down to the very sign above His head); He was in the very process of fulfilling His own prophecy.

Because Jesus is the Son of God, who always obeys the Will of the Father, as the people demanded proof from Him; He did not come down from the cross. Everything He did was because it was in obedience to the Father. He didn't need the glory of men, He was the glory of the LORD.

How does this relate to our own lives? Well first, people will ridicule you, people will accuse you, people will put you down. But you have to remember, your entire life is in purpose of God's Will, therefore don't ever feel you have to prove something to man that will take you out of your purpose for God.

And second, let's begin to treat one another with kindness- especially when we don't understand someone, and even more when they are not kind to us. Don't push people to become what benefits you, encourage them to be all the God has created them to be in any way you can. No matter how genius we are, we still will never know everything ("we know in part" 1 Corinthians 13:9) and you never know what God is working out in any given situation.

KEEP PRAYING OVER EVERYTHING!

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Crucifixion *part 3* v. 34

There (the soldiers) offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall (a narcotic used to deaden pain); but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.
----

When Jesus was offered the wine mixed with gall, He refused to drink it because of what was in it. Gall is generally understood to be a narcotic that was used to deaden pain. That wasn't the plan for Jesus. Jesus would suffer fully conscious and with a clear mind.

What do you use to block the pain in your heart? Drugs, alcohol, sex, food, tv, music, isolation, sleep, depression (some people find comfort in it), excessive control, anger... ? Whatever it is, trip this-we DON'T need it! And let's rebuke the lie, some of these things are not used just to have a good time, or to rest- they are used to dull the pain. But the catch is that once you're back in reality, the pain is still there. Ironically, we keep turning to these empty, lifeless remedies.

Take a great lesson from our Friend Jesus, who suffered way more than we ever will. Jesus was without fault and still willingly did what His life was created for, consciously and with a clear mind. This is how much He trusted His Father.
Honestly, most of the time we make the dumb decisions that bring on our pain, and we allow that guilt to draw us away from God. It's time to trust our Father! It's time to bring all the pain and suffering to Him so that He can deal with it and remove it.

Let's all commit today and every day to stop taking our relief in our own hands; and let God take it in His. Even when we suffer, let's keep clear minds in order to turn to God and to not give the enemy any room to get in. Don't you want to live the life that you were created for? I know I do! It took me several years to figure this all out, but I'm glad that I finally get it and exercise it in my life. It is awesome to see God move quickly and efficiently on my behalf. The killers I use to turn to no longer control me nor entice me when it comes to the comfort I need.

To be totally clear, this message is speaking to that deep emotional pain inside of you; the pain that feels like it will never go away and it seems that no one can help you. Well, God can and will. Make it easy and let Him. No matter how hard it is for us to do it, go Nike and "just do it!"

WHAT IS YOUR GALL?
-spit it out!

DEATH & RESURRECTION OF JESUS, THE KING

Matthew 27

The Crucifixion *part 2* v. 32

As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.
----

If you are not aware, the four gospels of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) recount many of the same experiences through different eyes. So be prepared to read Scripture that will ring in your head as "familiar" but trust- it will reveal something new to you or just remind you of something important each time. The crucifixion is an account that we will revisit in the next 3 gospels.

What torture Jesus had to endure. In this day, condemned prisoners had to carry their own crosses to the execution site. Jesus, weakened from the beatings He had received, was physically unable to carry His cross any farther. Thus, a bystanders, Simon (verse 32), was forced to do so. What an honor this man Simon had, probably without even realizing it. He actually was able to carry the physical burden of the cross with Jesus. He was forced, which probably meant that he refused. But he still did it. Can we take a journey back to Matthew 11:28, when Jesus told the crowd "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

There is absolute freedom in Jesus, that is the truth. But while in this world where satan is- there is a burden that comes with serving Jesus. And many of us do not want to carry it, just like Simon didn't. The burden of being rejected, talked about and judged; the burden of sin, excessive demands of religious leaders, family members and friends, oppression and persecution, weariness in the search for God and the list can go on.

Jesus frees us from ALL burdens. The rest that Jesus promises comes from His fulfillment on the cross. Love, healing, and peace with God are His promises. A relationship with God changes meaningless, wearisome toil/labor into spiritual productivity and purpose. There was purpose in Simon carrying the cross with Jesus. When we are beaten down emotionally, physically and spiritually, Jesus does exactly as Simon did- He is right there to take those burdens off of us. There is purpose in serving Jesus each and every day of our lives. The blessing is that Jesus will not refuse to help us; BUT He will not force Himself upon us either. We have to make the decision and take action in the choices we make every day to join Jesus and live the way He commands. It will be hard- there is no doubt about it. You will have to take stand after stand opposite popular opinion and behaviors. But it will definitely be worth it.

There is no way Simon wasn't changed from making that journey with Jesus. And there is no way you will not be changed in allowing Him to take the journey with you.

FIND YOUR REST IN THE LORD!
