TGN: Rest...

Prayer: Father God, teach us how to dwell in the shelter of the Most High and rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Let not these be just words for us, but living Truths that we're able to recognize. LORD, may we recognize Your Authority in everything we do today and every day. You're so good. You're All Powerful, All Knowing, Forever loving. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

JESUS' MINISTRY IN GALILEE

Mark 2 v. 23-28 (NLT)

LORD of the Sabbath

23 One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat. 24 But the Pharisees said to Jesus, "Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?"

25 Jesus said to them, "Haven't you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 26 He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions (1 Samuel 21:1-6)."

27 Then Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!"

------

God created the Sabbath for our benefit, not His own. God derives no benefit from having us rest on the Sabbath, but we are restored mentally, physically and spiritually when we take time to rest and to focus on God.

For the Pharisees, Sabbath laws had become more important than Sabbath rest. They were so caught up in their manmade laws and traditions that they lost sight of what was good and right. They were so focused on the words of the rule that they missed its intent.

David is used as an example, because like Jesus, they both understood that the intent of God's law is to promote love for God and others. When we apply a law to other people, we should make sure we understand its purpose and intent so we don't make harmful and inappropriate judgments.

I know many of us have tried, desire and are currently incorporating a Sabbath into her busy schedules or lives. Don't be burdened by what it's suppose to "look like." God provided the Sabbath as a day of rest and worship, take advantage of it. America in general is running it's people into the ground, filling up every moment is not healthy and doesn't necessary produce a productive life. If it's not purposed it's worthless. Let's slow down- let go of the agenda for a second, if just for an hour a week- just rest and give it to God. Trust God, We need it!

-HOW YOU CONDUCT YOUR TIME OF REST & WORSHIP IS BETWEEN YOU AND GOD.
JUST KNOW: IT BENEFITS YOU TO MAKE TIME FOR IT AND COMMIT TO DOING IT.

Pray what comes to your heart after reading today's Word.
(Doesn't have to be long, just speak and take a moment to be still and quiet before moving on with your day)
